The Mad Heaters Tempest 2 is a portable, battery-free thermal extraction device designed for botanical materials. Relying entirely on an external heat source, such as a butane lighter or induction heater, it operates through a purely analog system. Constructed primarily from CNC-machined Grade 5 Titanium and stainless steel, the device focuses on durability, heat retention, and a fully modular design. Users can customize various components, including the stem and heat shield, to adjust the physical weight and thermal properties. With an adjustable airflow port and native compatibility with standard 8mm stems, it accommodates varying preferences for manual draw resistance during inhalation.
Convection-Based Thermal Matrix
The heating mechanism utilizes a thermal matrix located inside the cap, pre-assembled with approximately 90 zirconia balls measuring 3mm each. These spheres absorb and retain heat from the external source, transferring thermal energy to the botanical material via convection heating. Users can substitute the zirconia spheres for other materials like quartz or ruby to alter the heat-up times and extraction variables.
Adjustable Chamber Capacity
The titanium heating chamber incorporates a 3-stage adjustable screen mechanism to modify the interior volume. By utilizing a simple twist-to-lock system, users can configure the bowl to hold varying capacities of botanical material. This adjustable design accommodates loads of approximately 0.1g, 0.15g, or 0.2g per session, providing flexibility depending on the desired usage and material conservation.
Analog Temperature Feedback
To monitor the heating process without electronic sensors, the device employs two distinct forms of analog temperature indication. The cap features temperature-calibrated click discs that emit an audible snap when the operational temperature is reached. Furthermore, a visual temperature gauge changes appearance to indicate the relative heat level, displaying maximum temperatures up to 290°C (550°F).
