Dabbing

Dabbing, loosely translated, means “dab” and describes the movement generated when you heat cannabis concentrates on hot surfaces. It is the inhalation of concentrates containing active ingredients. Thes used concentrates for this are called dabs. These highly concentrated mixtures usually have a cannabinoid content of around 75% (even more in exceptional cases) and can be ingested in various ways.

Application

A glass dab whistle is required to use dabs. In addition, you will need a tube with a glass base, the classic dab swab, a nail, and a flame. Moreover, a hot surface is necessary for the concentrate to turn into vapor. Heat the tip of the nail to produce vapor, and then drip a drop of oil onto it. One distinguishes between nails with a dome (cupola) and without. Without a dome, the nails heat up much faster, making them more suitable for regular dabbing. Nails with domes, on the other hand, are considered safer.

Manufacturing

Making the different types of dab is a time-consuming process. With solvents, one separates the parts of the cannabis plant that have the highest concentration of cannabinoids. As a result, cannabis is produced in highly concentrated doses and with great potency.

There are several methods of making dabs. The most commonly known are:

  • Butane Honey Oil (BHO)
  • Propane honey oil
  • CO2

Butane honey oil (BHO) or propane is the most commonly used. Both methods use butane or propane as a solvent to extract the crucial elements from the cannabis plant. These are trichomes of the cannabis plant. These tiny trichomes largely determine the characteristic taste of the dab. Afterward, one cleans the extracts. It ensures that there are no toxic residues in the concentrate. The production method using CO2 is considered a solvent-free extraction. According to some consumers, these cannabis concentrates are healthier.

Types

The term “concentrate” has now become synonymous with dabbing and can be used to describe a variety of cannabinoid-containing products such as oils, tinctures, and vape extracts. The most common types of concentrates include shatter, wax, and budder.

Depending on the desired flavor and type, there is a concentrate or dab for every taste. The additional ones vary significantly in terms of their THC levels, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol and causes the state of intoxication.

Shatter
Shatter is one of the most well-known types of dab, which is very hard, glassy, and resembles amber; it tends to be high in THC. Most shatter types have an active ingredient content of between 70 and 90%.

Wax
Another popular type of dab is wax, which has a very soft texture that makes it easy to use. The THC level here can be as high as 80%.

Sugar Wax
Sugar wax has a harder consistency than pure wax, a very high THC value with an average of 60 to 90%, and an intense taste.

Live resin
Live resin typically has high THC levels, between 80% and 90% or higher, and is made using the extraction of fresh rather than dried buds from cannabis.

Crumble
Crumble, a crumbly wax (sometimes a powder-like substance), is also often used. Different amounts of vacuum and temperatures are used during the extraction when making this type of dab. The average THC content here is between 60 and 80%.

Budder
With budder, the name already gives away the consistency: This type of dab is as smooth as butter and very mild, and the THC percentage is between 50 and a maximum of 70%.

The Pure
Another dab is Pure, one of the most potent forms of any cannabis concentrate; the THC content is close to 99%. This concentrate is a clear liquid.

Rosin
To make this cannabis extract, one heats cured or dried cannabis flowers. Pressed buds under heat, you will get secreted resin. Typically, rosin has a THC content of around 60%.

Advantages and disadvantages

Dabbing has certain advantages and disadvantages. A significant benefit of dabbing is the absence of nicotine. Since pure concentrate is obtained from the cannabis plant, so tobacco is not needed. Dabbing is therefore used medically in some countries. The consumer can reduce the THC percentage to up to 50% with pure concentrate. Cannabis has been proven helpful in the medical field and can help with chronic pain. Another benefit is the ease of use and manufacture of the dabs.

Due to the pure concentrate, there were occasional cases in which cannabis consumption led to an overdose. Another disadvantage of dabbing is that the manufacturing process involves chemical substances. One can not rule out accidents as a result.
